Commercial Energy Performance

Overheads and expenses can really drain the amount of gross profit an organisation is left with. One of the most overlooked expenses, in business terms, are energy bills.

Commercial Energy Performance is often ignored within organisations as many businesses remain complacent with the energy performance of their property. With a document like a Commercial Energy Performance Certificate, businesses can view their efficiency rating and potential efficiency rating after improvements.

It is a legal requirement that all businesses provide a Commercial Energy Performance Certificate if they are up for sale, rent or even after refurbishment. Businesses must also display their actual energy performance.

The Commercial EPC will be carried out by a qualified and accredited Commercial Energy Assessor. The assessor will take into account a variety of factors when conducting the assessment including; age and layout of property, building material, heating, cooling and ventilation amongst others. Assessors are divided into three groups, each responsible for assessing a different type of commercial property. Level 3 covers small, existing properties such as houses that have been converted into businesses. Level 4 covers new or purpose built buildings; level 4 buildings must also contain heating systems greater than 100Kw and cooling systems greater than 12Kw. Level 5 Buildings are far more complex in design than either 3 or 4, such as industrial warehouses and factories.
