Loft Insulation Grants
In order for the government to reach their targets of a reduction in carbon emissions of 34% by 2020, they have introduced a number of initiatives aimed at curbing the amount of CO2 emitted from homes.
One of these initiatives introduced by the government is Loft Insulation Grants. Loft Insulation Grants allow certain people to install loft insulation at no, or little, cost to them. Although introduced by the government, Loft Insulation Grants are in fact provided by utility companies.
Full Loft Insulation Grants are available to all tenants and homeowners over 70 or in receipt of specific benefits including, but not limited to, council tax benefit, housing benefit, income support, disability living allowance and child tax credit. Subsidised grants that will cover at least 50% of the costs are available for those that do not qualify for the full loft insulation grants.
Loft Insulation Grants were introduced to not only curb carbon emissions but also to address fuel inequality amongst society. The elderly will benefit from warmer homes in the winter, which could be the difference between life and death. Fuel poor households will notice a significant difference in the ability to heat their homes.
