PAT Test CertificateWorkplaces and landlords have a legal obligation to ensure that the safety of all portable electrical equipment on their premises. The process in which it is determined whether an appliance if safe or not is known as Portable Appliance Testing, or PAT Testing. A Certificate is supplied with every PAT Test conducted. It is intended that the certificate will enable anyone to identify that a product has been tested and is fit for use.A PAT test certificate does not look like what some might call a conventional certificate, in the sense that it is not a piece of paper presented upon completion. The PAT test certificate is simply a label affixed to the plug of an appliance. The PAT test Certificate provides details on when the next PAT test should be conducted and indicates that a product has passed the test. The certificate must be signed by whoever conducted the test. Although the PAT Test Certificate does not provide much detail, the information provided is more than sufficient. In order for a PAT test certificate to be awarded an appliance must pass the PAT testing process. This includes examining the interior and exterior of the plug and checking the power cable for damage. Should the appliance fail at this stage in the process a certificate will not be awarded and, instead, the product is bound to prevent use and deemed hazardous. Next the appliance is plugged into a PAT machine that tests the appliances electrical integrity. Upon passing this stage a certificate is placed on the appliance. |
