PAT Testing

PAT Testing is the process of examining a portable appliance and certifying it is safe for use. If you are a landlord or business owner then it is a legal requirement that you test all portable products within your properties. According to the Health & Safety Executive 25% of all reported electrical incidents involved some form of portable appliance. Landlords or business owners that do not conduct testing and have their equipment certified would be liable for prosecution and a large fine.

PAT Testing is a relatively simple process. A PAT tester will inspect an appliances plug and power cable, checking for any cracks, splits, contortions and any other anomalies. Should any be found at this stage in the testing process the appliance could be deemed hazardous. The appliance is then plugged into a PAT Testing machine that analyses the appliance. The type of analyses conducted depends on how advanced a PAT testing machine is.
